Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Pantry (LAMP), a program under the Lorraine Avenue Mission Board, was envisioned as a means of ministering to the community to help fill needs that have not been met. Working with Youth Development Services, Inc. (YDS) a nearly 30-year-old non-profit organization, LAMP is able to provide assistance to young mothers and families who are making the transition from government assistance to self-sufficiency. YDS provides counseling, home visits and training classes to address areas of family life including parenting and family life skills, budgeting and finances, job interview preparation, education counseling, meal planning and more. LAMP helps by furnishing monthly boxes of diapers, household cleaning and kitchen supplies, and personal hygiene items to participants in the program, helping ease their strained budgets.
